The Kano State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of three Local Government Council chairmen by an
additional three months.
The affected council chairmen are Bello Abdullahi-Gadanya of Bagwai, Alhassan Salisu of Bebeji, and Abubakar-Mustapha of Rogo. The lawmakers had earlier suspended the officials following allegations of violation of due process in their administrative procedures.
The House also granted a corresponding three-month mandate extension to the ad-hoc committee tasked with investigating the petitions against the chairmen.
According to a statement on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary of the Assembly, Kamaluddeen Sani-Shawai, the Speaker gave the committee the time to conduct a thorough probe and present its findings.
“With the expiration of the initial period, the House has now extended both the suspension of the chairmen and the mandate of the committee by another three months, to enable the committee to further examine the petitions, conclude its investigation, and submit its report to the House within the next three months”.
The extension ensures that investigations remain ongoing before any final resolutions are reached by the assembly.
