The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his neighbour to death following an altercation over roasted meat.

The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Augustine, reportedly attacked 21-year-old Haggai Markus on November 4, 2026, at Mararaban Vimtim in the Mubi North Local Government Area. The incident occurred at about 8:00 pm after a sudden disagreement over meat taken from a local butcher’s table.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroji, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Thursday. According to the spokesperson, the victim’s father, Markus Gabo, reported the attack to the police later that evening.

“In the course of the misunderstanding, the suspect allegedly used a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest”.

Police officers in Mubi North Division quickly arrived at the scene, where they found Markus lying dead in a pool of blood. The officers recovered a sharp knife as an exhibit and immediately took the suspect into custody.

The victim’s corpse was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor officially confirmed him dead.

Nguroji added that the suspect and the case diary will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Hassan, commiserated with the family of the deceased. He appealed to residents to resolve disagreements amicably and report disputes to the authorities rather than resorting to violence.
