Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised two suspected kidnappers during an operation in Kogi State. The operation also led to the recovery of a massive cache of arms and ammunition from the fleeing criminals.

The clearance operation was carried out on November 3, 2026, by troops of the 12 Composite Brigade in Edimogbo Forest, located in the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of the state. It served as a follow-up to an initial raid on November 2, where soldiers engaged the bandits to clear their remaining hideouts.

During the joint operations to track the fleeing suspects, the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, and over 5,000 rounds of ammunition. The military seized 438 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition and 4,725 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, alongside two bandoliers, two mobile phones, and a power bank.

Confirming the development in a press release late Tuesday, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Composite Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, restates the commitment of the military to restoring peace in the region.

“The successful exploitation operation further consolidates the gains recorded during the previous day’s raid and underscores the Brigade’s determination to sustain pressure on criminal elements operating within its area of responsibility. Troops have continued to dominate the general area, with their morale and fighting efficiency remaining high”.

The 12 Composite Brigade has continued to conduct joint operations with the Kogi State Police Command and other security agencies to wipe out kidnapping syndicates and restore lasting security across the state.
