The Federal Government has mentioned the criteria for selecting beneficiaries of its ₦50,000 cash relief initiative under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).

According to details published on the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction’s official portal, recipients are selected from verified national identity records and the National Social Register (NSR). The data is screened to reach poor and vulnerable households across all six geopolitical zones.

Eligibility requires valid enrollment with both the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the NSR, which currently contains data on over 70 million individuals.

The National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office coordinates the register through community-based targeting to identify households within the bottom six deciles of poverty indicators.

The ministry emphasised that the selection process operates independently of public application forms or fee payments.

“You cannot apply or pay to be added. Not everyone is in the first group. Your data is used only for this programme”.

Disbursements under the shock-responsive grant are paid directly into mobile wallets. The ministry confirmed that payments are being executed in phases and without regard to religious, ethnic, or political affiliations.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, had previously announced the commencement of the cash transfers on October 30.

Citizens can verify their selection status via designated USSD banking channels, including: ALAT by Wema (*945*23#), MoMo PSB (*671*0#), NairaGram (*726*00#), OPay (*955*20#) and Moniepoint (*5573*27#).
