Thousands of followers, students, and dignitaries have converged in Bauchi, the capital of Bauchi State, to pay their final respects to the revered Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi.

The Sheikh, a towering figure and the supreme leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order in Nigeria, passed away on Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi. His death is being mourned as a monumental loss to the global Muslim community.

The Bauchi State Government, in honour of the scholar’s profound legacy, declared Friday, November 28, a work-free day to enable all residents, workers, and students to attend the funeral rites.

‎Speaking on behalf of the family, Maulud Dahiru Bauchi confirmed that the funeral prayer (Jana’iza) was held by 3:00 p.m. at the Bauchi Eid Ground, in accordance with the deceased’s written will.

The will specifically nominated Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh, the Grand Imam and a prominent Maiduguri-based Islamic scholar, to preside over the congregation.

‎The funeral attracted an array of high-profile figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, leading the Federal Government delegation, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, state governors, including Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano, and Governor Umaru Bago of Niger, ministers, and numerous traditional rulers.

Police operatives and road marshals were deployed throughout the metropolis to manage the massive influx of mourners from Bauchi and neighbouring states, ensuring traffic control and law and order.
