Gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group have attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, along the Maje border in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing three officers.‎

The terrorists reportedly killed the officers, set an operational vehicle ablaze, and destroyed the checkpoint shelter before escaping.

The deceased include Assistant Superintendent of Immigration Jerry Ande and two unnamed Inspectors of Immigration.

The attack targeted the NIS checkpoint at Bakin Ruwa, along the Maje border in Bagudo LGA, an area that has seen repeated attacks, including the killing of a Customs officer just three weeks prior.

Initially emerging around 2016 as a self-defense force hired by local communities to fight bandits, the Lakurawa have since transformed into a radical, oppressive terrorist organization.

They are known for waging war on government officials and security forces, which they see as obstacles to their territorial control agenda.
