Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has publicly confirmed receiving an invitate from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), promising to honour the invitation immediately.

Malami, who served as the chief law officer of the nation from 2015 to 2023, announced the development on his personal Facebook page on Friday, stating his commitment to transparency and accountability in public service.

‎Malami’s eight years as AGF were marked by high-profile anti-corruption campaigns, involving international arbitration disputes (like the P&ID case), the handling of recovered loot (including Abacha assets), and various financial crimes prosecutions, drawing consistent criticism from civil society groups regarding alleged misuse of power and unexplained wealth acquisition.

‎The EFCC’s letter to Malami, dated November 24, invoked Section 38(1) and (2) of the EFCC Act, indicating that the agency requires information for an ongoing case. The interview is scheduled to take place at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja on Friday. The agency has not released specific details on the allegations, as at the time this report was published.

During the later years of his tenure, Malami faced public scrutiny and petitions regarding contract approvals, the alleged illegal auctioning of seized assets, and his personal acquisition of wealth, issues often reported by civil society groups.
