The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Muhammad Abubakar III, has demonstrated a strong commitment to integrating religious and secular education by awarding full scholarships to 20 students from the Sultanate Islamiyya School in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State.

The announcement was made on Friday during a Qur’anic graduation ceremony for 432 students, where the Sultan pledged to fund the students’ tertiary education at the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda.

The scholarships cover all expenses for the 20 graduating students to pursue studies at the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda. Furthermore, the Sultanate has taken full responsibility for the Islamiyya school, including the monthly salaries of its 64 teachers and the provision of student and teacher prizes.

The school, which graduated 432 students this year out of a total enrollment of 1,772, was established 63 years ago by the late Sultan Abubakar III.

‎Guest speaker, Professor Jafaru Makau Kaura of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, called on the Federal Government to review the secondary school science curricula to better align with Islamic morals, values, and basic knowledge.

Professor Makau also urged Islamic organisations to develop alternative approaches that engage science students intellectually from an Islamic perspective, advocating a shift from theoretical to practical knowledge to instill moral values and promote self-reliance.
