All 24 school girls abducted last week from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, have been rescued and regained their freedom, according to a statement from the presidency on Tuesday.
The students were kidnapped on November 17 when armed assailants invaded their school in the border axis of Sakaba Local Government Area.
The assault occurred in the early hours of the morning, resulting in the death of the Vice Principal of the school, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, who was reportedly killed while trying to protect the students.
As a result of this attack, President Bola Tinubu ordered the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi to oversee operations aimed towards rescuing the abducted girls.
Their release followed an intelligence-driven search-and-rescue operations conducted by security forces, including the military and police tactical units.
