Cameroon’s 92-year-old President, Paul Biya, has been officially declared the winner of the 2025 Presidential Election, securing another seven-year term.

The Constitutional Council announced on Monday that Biya won with 53.66% of the total votes against his closest challenger, Issa Tchiroma, who obtained 35.19%.

Paul Biya, who has been in power for over 43 years, is currently the world’s oldest serving head of state. This victory extends his long tenure, setting him up to govern until the age of 99. The election was held on October 12, with the official results announced two weeks later.

The opposition groups, have consistently accused the ruling party of manipulating the electoral process and stifling dissent, allegations which the government denied, maintaining that the election was free and fair.

There was a split in the total outcome of votes between domestic and diaspora voters; Tchiroma secured the majority of votes from Cameroonian communities in Europe (62.79%), the Americas (66.75%), Asia/Middle East (68.21%), and Africa (54.99%). However, the Constitutional Council emphasized that the final winner is determined by the total domestic vote, which favored Biya.

Biya maintains his status as the world’s oldest serving head of state and is now set to govern until the year 2032.
