The Nigerian Super Eagles have safely arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, following a mid-air scare that forced their chartered flight to make an emergency return to Luanda, Angola, on Saturday.
The national football team was traveling from Polokwane, South Africa, to Uyo ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic when their aircraft suffered a cracked windscreen shortly after departing from Luanda, where it had briefly stopped to refuel.
The plane was forced to turn back to Luanda Airport, but the pilot’s calm and expert handling ensured the safety of everyone onboard. No injuries were reported.
Following the incident, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) acted swiftly, arranging for another plane to transport the team from Lagos to Uyo.
This unexpected delay has momentarily disrupted the team’s schedule, but the Super Eagles remain focused on their upcoming match, a key fixture that could define Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup.
