Suspected kidnappers intercepted a Toyota Carina II vehicle traveling from Katsina-Ala in Benue State and abducted its passengers near an abandoned checkpoint. Acting quickly on a tip-off, troops and police combed the area and found the victims, rescuing them safely from the bush.
The rescued persons were identified as Terna Gbaya (43), Musa Adamu (55), Rose Sor (35), Lydia Vyiashima (40), Comfort Iyofar (60), and a baby. They have been reunited with their families while efforts continue to apprehend the kidnappers and secure the area.
Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, explained:
Our troops responded promptly to the information received and moved swiftly. The operation’s success was due to coordinated efforts with the Police, ensuring the safe recovery of the victims
The community remains hopeful but cautious, as security forces maintain heightened vigilance in the region.
Security agencies urge the public to keep providing credible information as operations continue across Taraba State. Meanwhile, DEPOWA has launched a one-year prayer campaign to honour frontline troops, reinforcing national solidarity and support for security efforts.
