Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has warned that politicising the state’s security challenges undermines plans to combat banditry and worsens suffering. Speaking in Silame, he urged citizens to support the ongoing peace talks.

‎At the conclusion of his condolence visits to communities hit by recent bandit attacks in Silame Local Government Area, Governor Aliyu condemned those who turn insecurity into political tools. He called such actions reckless and insensitive.

‎The Governor mentioned that the state government is collaborating with security agencies by deploying operational vehicles, logistics, and intelligence support to combat banditry.

‎Governor Aliyu also addressed reports of some residents acting as informants to bandits, describing it as a betrayal of trust. He announced plans to introduce a bill to impose harsh penalties on anyone caught aiding criminal elements.

‎The Governor presented ₦2 million and five bags of rice to each family of the 33 victims who lost their lives in recent attacks in Silame, a total of ₦66 million and 165 bags of rice. The communities remain tense as security operations continue, with many citizens calling for stronger protection and engagement.

‎Governor Aliyu urged Sokoto citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and support security agencies in restoring peace.
