Abdulrahman Abubakar, district head of Kirawa town in Borno State, fled to Cameroon following a Boko Haram attack that killed two people and burned down his palace and several homes earlier this week.

The violent raid occurred on Wednesday in Gwoza Local Government Area, a region frequently targeted by Boko Haram insurgents due to its strategic border location. The attack left at least two people dead and destroyed about 50 houses, heavy-duty equipment, and eight vehicles. Many residents fled, with some boarding trucks to cross into neighboring Cameroon for safety, while others ran to Maiduguri.

This area had once been resettled seven years ago with the help of Cameroonian soldiers, but the insurgency recently forced yet another wave of displacement.

Governor Babagana Zulum visited the devastated community on Friday and expressed concern over insufficient military protection after the withdrawal of Cameroonian troops.
