The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) announced on Sunday that passenger train services between Abuja and Kaduna will recommence on Wednesday, October 1, following a suspension prompted by an August 26 incident. A new timetable has been released to ensure safe and reliable operations.

‎The Abuja-Kaduna train was temporarily halted after a safety-related incident on August 26, which disrupted travel along one of Nigeria’s busiest rail corridors. Under the revised schedule, trains departing from Abuja will leave Idu station at 8:45 a.m., stop at Kubwa at 9:05 a.m., and arrive in Rigasa, Kaduna by 12:42 p.m. The return service from Kaduna will depart Rigasa at 2:30 p.m., pause at Kubwa at 6:02 p.m., and reach Idu by 6:23 p.m. The NRC has designated Wednesdays as maintenance days to ensure  reliability of the line.

‎Callistus Unyimadu provided additional context on the aftermath of the incident, revealing that 530 of the 583 passengers onboard have been contacted, with 512 receiving refunds. The corporation has also been closely engaged with the 22 injured passengers, some of whom have been visited by NRC’s medical teams.

‎The NRC urged passengers to cooperate with the new safety protocols and remain patient as full services resume.
