ADC declares President Tinubu a one-term leader

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly countered the Presidency’s recent statement denying any intentions by President Bola Tinubu to prolong his rule past 2031. The party insists his tenure ends in 2027.

‎‎In a release from its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC criticized the government’s stance as both arrogant and undemocratic. Citing rampant insecurity, escalating hunger, crushing taxes, and unprecedented abuses of authority, the opposition insists the president should be preparing to exit the office at the end of his current term.

The statement recounts the crisis of banditry and violence sweeping large parts of Nigeria, as well as the deteriorating economic situation. ADC stressed on the displacement and harm suffered by ordinary citizens, accusing the administration of ignoring the country’s harsh realities.

‎Bolaji Abdullahi rebuked the government’s reaction to former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s controversial remarks about President Tinubu’s alleged desire for lifelong rule. He described this defensive posture as confirmation of a leadership disconnected from popular concerns and dangerously self-assured.

‎The party reminded the public that President Tinubu has yet to earn a second term, pointing to his two years in office which, in their view, have deepened national divisions and poverty. The northern regions especially have seen bandits exert control unchecked, coinciding with what the ADC calls oppressive fiscal policies emanating from Abuja.

‎Security, the party laments, has become a farce under the current administration. Kidnappings happen openly, with rural areas resembling conflict zones. The resulting trauma afflicts the nation, while governmental efforts appear minimal and ineffective.

‎On the economic front, the naira’s free fall, spiraling inflation, tripling food costs, and vanishing employment opportunities paint a bleak picture. The shrinking middle class and collapsing businesses burdened by harsh levies further fuel public discontent.

‎The party urges Nigerians to remain vigilant and demand accountability as the 2027 timeline approaches.
