The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that no Ebola virus cases were detected in the Federal Capital Territory following tests on suspected patients who showed symptoms linked to hemorrhagic fever. The travellers involved were examined after arriving on a Rwanda Air flight to Abuja.

In a statement posted on his X account on Friday, the NCDC Director General, Dr. Jide Idris, explained that recent suspected cases of viral hemorrhagic fever in Abuja tested negative not only for Ebola but also for Marburg virus. The health agency is continuing investigations for other viral infections such as Lassa fever and dengue.

‎Dr. Idris praised the quick action of one traveller who, after returning from Kigali, promptly sought medical attention when feeling unwell.

The Centre encouraged Nigerians to consult medical professionals immediately if experiencing symptoms, especially following recent travel. It also warned against spreading misinformation, urging the public to rely solely on official updates from the NCDC.

Preventive advice included regular handwashing, practising good hygiene, and avoiding contact with persons exhibiting unexplained fever, bleeding, vomiting, or diarrhoea. These measures are key to controlling the spread of viral infections. The public is therefore encouraged to stay informed via authorised sources and continue practising recommended hygiene measures.
