Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party, has expressed openness for his party to re-enter the All Progressives Congress (APC), but only if substantial assurances are made.

Kwankwaso shared this position while welcoming Buhari Bakwana, a former political adviser to ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, alongside APC representatives from all 44 local government areas in Kano State, at his residence on Miller Road, Kano.

He recounted the role he and his colleagues played during APC’s formation in 2013, outlining the political challenges and persecution they endured.

No one can deny the heavy sacrifices we made to establish APC. We were among the first seven governors to pledge support. Agencies like ICPC, EFCC, and the police were deployed against us to thwart our efforts…if the proposal is for us to merge with APC, we need details on what NNPP members will receive in return – Kwankwaso

The NNPP leader emphasized that any potential reunification or coalition talks with APC must clearly outline what tangible advantages his party stands to gain.

Kwankwaso accused both APC and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of breaking agreements in the past. He added that during Buhari’s eight-year tenure under APC, they received nothing, not even basic recognition. He added that they only requested a zonal party chairman slot from the PDP, which was denied.
He further reiterated NNPP’s readiness to negotiate afresh but cautioned against exploitation.
