The Federal Government has unveiled a centralized digital system aimed at revolutionizing data handling across Nigeria’s technical colleges and polytechnics. The platform, introduced yesterday by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), seeks to boost efficiency and transparency in the TVET sector.
The Unified Institution Management Enterprise Resource Planning portal, developed under the NBTE’s digital transformation drive, represents a major advancement in managing technical education nationwide. The system will help institutions in the organization of administrative tasks, improve oversight, and enhance service delivery.
At the event launch, NBTE’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, emphasized that this new digital tool will transform the governance of technical education, and also ensure greater accountability and operational effectiveness. Dr. Babangida A. Albaba, Technical Assistant to the Executive Secretary, outlined key functionalities of the platform which includes security features, and the procedures for institutions to register and begin using the system.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, officially inaugurated the platform, stressed that the government has set up an active system to enforce full institutional participation. Prof. Ahmad confirmed that registration on the portal will be compulsory for all polytechnics and technical institutions by December 2025.
Participants at the gathering expressed concerns about potential challenges involving resource distribution, data privacy, and system usability. In response, NBTE assured attendees of robust cybersecurity measures, consistent accessibility, and technical assistance to ease the transition.
