Arase served as the 18th Inspector-General of Police, an appointment he received in April 2015 from then-President Goodluck Jonathan. His tenure included crucial reforms and efforts aimed at strengthening the police service. After retiring in 2016, he continued contributing to national security by leading the Police Service Commission (PSC) beginning in January 2023, during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, a role he held until June 2024, when President Bola Tinubu made leadership changes.

Before becoming the nation’s top cop, he headed the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the police’s top intelligence department.
His experience also extended beyond Nigeria’s borders. Arase took part in international peacekeeping, serving with the United Nations mission in Namibia, which added a valuable global dimension to his career.
