The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Gombe State chapter, has initiated comprehensive training sessions for Registration Area Officers as preparations intensify for the upcoming in-person stage of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The sessions, held at the Women Development Centre, convened RAOs and Electoral Officers from all 11 local government areas, alongside personnel from the Voter Registry/ICT division and members of the State Management Committee. This meeting aims to equip officials with up-to-date knowledge and sharpen their skills ahead of the crucial registration phase.
At the inaugural meeting on Friday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Gombe, Sa’ad Idris, emphasized that a trustworthy voting process begins with meticulous registration of voters.
He stated that this registration period would differ from past endeavors, cautioning staff to uphold the highest standards of honesty and professionalism throughout the campaign.
Establishing credible elections relies heavily on having a sound registration system. This stage will definitely not be routine business as usual. We expect full integrity…our goal is to ensure both officials and citizens are well-prepared for this registration campaign
The REC further assured participants of timely payment of all entitlements but warned against any neglect of duties, such as assigning responsibilities to unauthorized individuals, which would result in stringent disciplinary measures.
Idris also charged electoral staff at the local government level to maintain vigilant supervision over activities, revealing plans for personal field inspections and public feedback monitoring during the registration rollout.
In support of the effort, he had earlier approved distribution of audio-visual equipment to LGA offices to enhance voter education and public awareness. Additionally, he instructed the head of Voter Registry/ICT to meticulously configure the INEC Voter Enlightenment Device and emphasize hands-on practice in training workshops.
