The Presidency sharply criticized Buhari’s appointees, including Amaechi and Malami, for joining the ADC-led opposition coalition in Abuja to challenge Tinubu in 2027, highlighting APC’s internal rifts.
Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s media adviser, criticized Amaechi, Malami, Hadi Sirika, and Rauf Aregbesola for lacking ideology and pursuing personal ambitions. Onanuga called the coalition “desperados” united by their opposition to Tinubu, predicting its collapse due to conflicting interests.
The coalition, unveiled Wednesday, appointed David Mark as interim National Chairman and Aregbesola as Secretary. Comprising members from PDP, Labour Party, and APC, it includes Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, aiming to unseat Tinubu.
APC’s Festus Keyamo dismissed the coalition, stating it strengthens APC by fragmenting the PDP. He argued that dual party membership is illegal, and the coalition, led by Atiku, may sideline Obi, risking loss of his supporters.
The Presidency’s remarks highlight deepening APC divisions and intensifying political rivalry ahead of 2027. Observers note coalition politics, like APC’s 2013 formation, could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape, though its success remains uncertain.
