President Bola Tinubu will champion regional integration at the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) in Abuja on June 21, 2025, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, announced.

The two-day summit, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, precedes the 67th ECOWAS Ordinary Summit on June 22. As ECOWAS Chairman, Tinubu initiated WAES to deepen economic integration, focusing on trade and investment cooperation. He invited Alliance of Sahelian States and Mauritania leaders to foster inclusive dialogue.

Presidents from Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Senegal, The Gambia, Benin, Togo, and Guinea-Bissau will attend, alongside ministers of finance, trade, infrastructure, and foreign affairs from ECOWAS states. Representatives from regional bodies like the West African Monetary Agency and the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, plus private sector leaders and policy experts, are also participating.

Tinubu dispatched a delegation, led by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, to deliver invitations to regional heads of state. The summit aims to produce concrete outcomes to advance West Africa’s integration, supporting sustainable peace, security, and prosperity.
