The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has issued a formal apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) following critical comments made by its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In a statement released by the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, the NNPP distanced itself from Kwankwaso’s recent statements, labeling them “reckless and unrepresentative of the party’s position.”
Oginni made it clear that Kwankwaso is no longer a member or the National Leader of the NNPP.
He emphasized that the party was founded in 2002 by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, not by Kwankwaso, and insisted that Kwankwaso and his associates—who have been expelled—should refrain from using the party’s name for political purposes.
“The recent outburst and attacks on the personality of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his expelled group are views and positions of his Kwankwasia group and not that of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP),” Oginni stated.
Oginni further explained that a court ruling on April 3, 2025, by the FCT High Court in Abuja affirmed the party’s official leadership, declaring Dr. Aniebonam as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major as Chairman of the National Working Committee. This verdict, according to Oginni, put an end to Kwankwaso’s attempts to gain control of the party through legal means.
The NNPP extended “an unreserved apology to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the entire APC family led by His Excellency, Dr. Abdulahi Umar Ganduje,” while condemning Kwankwaso’s actions. Oginni also confirmed that Kwankwaso, along with Elder Buba Galadima and other former members led by Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, had been legally removed from the party through judgments from both the Abia State High Court and the FCT High Court.
Finally, Oginni urged the public and media to stop identifying Kwankwaso as the NNPP leader, stating that he now leads only the Kwankwasia movement. Many of Kwankwaso’s followers are reportedly questioning his authority, demanding proof of the party’s original registration, which remains with its founder, Dr. Aniebonam. The NNPP concluded by reaffirming its dedication to national growth through constructive engagement, distancing itself from what it called “dirty politics.”
