Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has highlighted a great improvement in the state’s security situation since he assumed office in 2023.
During an interview on Channels Television, he stated that areas once plagued by violence and considered ungovernable like Birnin Gwari are now accessible and secure.
According to the governor, this turnaround is due to consistent and strategic security interventions implemented under his leadership.
Governor Sani emphasized the return of normalcy to previously embattled communities.
He noted that residents and visitors can now travel safely in places where, not long ago, heavy security escorts were essential. “In the past, places like Birnin Gwari were under siege. You couldn’t go there without heavy security cover. Today, we can go without even a single escort,” he stated, underscoring the impact of his administration’s efforts.
Another major indicator of progress, according to the governor, is the revival of local economies. He pointed out that critical markets—such as the cattle and grain markets in Birnin Gwari—have reopened after being shut for over seven years due to bandit activities. This development, he noted, signifies not only improved security but also growing economic confidence in the region.
Reflecting on the past, Governor Sani recounted the security measures taken during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign visit to Kaduna in December 2022. “The whole stretch had to be heavily fortified just to allow the campaign team through. Today, that same journey can be made without any special military arrangement,” he emphasized. The governor concluded by reinforcing the need for sustained collaboration between state and federal security agencies to maintain peace and stability across Kaduna State.
