The Oyo State Police Command has increased surveillance and patrol at Ikoyi-Ile, Oriire Local Government Area, after a written threat from suspected bandits was discovered in front of a residential building, promising to attack the community on January 20.
The letter, written in both English and Yoruba, warned residents to prepare for both tears and pains.
The threat came after a deadly ambush by a gang of 12 gunmen, who invaded Oloka, a nearby community in the same region just days earlier, where five forest rangers were killed.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, has ordered 24-hour surveillance and launched the deployment of tactical units to the axis.
Police personnel are currently on 24-hour high alert, with sustained ground presence to deny criminal elements any opportunity to operate or exploit the situation – DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, Oyo Police PPRO
Police have already launched a forensic investigation and a stop-and-search operations to deter the anonymous group from carrying out their evil agenda.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the Police.
