Professor Ngozi Odu, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This defection, finalized in her ward in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, comes exactly one month after Governor Siminalayi Fubara made the same move.

Odu stated that the reason for defecting is to strengthen the support base for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Fubara ahead of the 2027 elections.

Professor Odu after finalizing the defection processes in her ward, publicly sang “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand,” the signature anthem of the Tinubu presidency.

They said wherever I go, they will go with me; and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will go – Professor Ngozi Odu, Deputy Governor of Rivers State

‎In December 2025, Governor Fubara defected to the APC after a feud with his predecessor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. While Wike remains a member of the PDP, despite serving in APC cabinet, his loyalists in the State Assembly and Local Government Councils had already migrated to the APC.

‎Just hours after Odu’s move, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Benibo Anabraba, also resigned from the PDP, though he has yet to formally announce his next destination.

‎Alongside Odu, hundreds of Labour Party members in Ndoni also defected to the APC.
