The Presidency has dismissed claims that a photo from a diplomatic lunch in Paris was AI-generated. The controversy erupted after social media users spotted artifacts they believed were AI generated in the image.
Senior Special Assistant Temitope Ajayi clarified that the photo was taken with a mobile phone of poor quality. To make the image suitable for official release, a photographer used Grok (Elon Musk’s AI tool) to improve clarity and resolution, leading to the confusion.
The picture is real and not AI-generated as claimed. It was taken with a phone and understandably had poor quality. The photographer only later used Grok to improve the picture quality – Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President
The meeting took place on Sunday, January 4, in Paris, where the two leaders discussed world affairs and advancing Africa. The Presidency also confirmed that after their lunch, both leaders had dinner with the French President Emmanuel Macron.
The photo was shared on the President’s official X handle and the handle of his Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, to verify the authenticity of the meeting.
