Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, appeared before a Magistrate Court in Sagamu on Friday, facing multiple charges related to the accident on December 29, that killed two of Anthony Joshua’s close associates. The court adjourned the matter until January 20, this year to allow for further evidence gathering.
The prosecution alleges that Kayode was driving above the 65mph speed limit on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a tyre burst during an overtaking maneuver.
The vehicle, a Lexus SUV, collided with a stationary truck parked illegally by the side of the road. While Joshua escaped with minor injuries, his strength coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, were killed instantly.
Kayode faces four counts, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, and driving without a valid national license.
The court sets bail at 5 million naira with two sureties. Kayode remains in custody pending the fulfillment of these conditions.
The bodies of the two British victims were flown from Lagos to London via Istanbul on New Year’s Day for final burial arrangements.
