The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, on December 26, challenged President Bola Tinubu to fulfill the promise of the symbol of his party.

Abure urged the President to use the broom, the logo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to sweep systemic corruption out of the Nigerian government.

I called on President Tinubu to use the broom, which is his party’s logo, to sweep away corruption… because no government can survive until corruption is fought to a standstill – Julius Abure, LP National Chairman

The statement, issued through National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, stated that the success of the current administration is dependent on its ability to confront corruption head-on.

‎Abure stated that the struggle of the country emanated from the departure from the selfless values of the founding fathers. He called for the return of the attributes exhibited by Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Mallam Aminu Kano.

‎He stressed that the primitive accumulation of wealth by a small group of elites has robbed the country of the resources needed for critical infrastructure, schools, and hospitals.

‎The LP chairman used the example of Jesus Christ to illustrate a leader who was incorruptible and willing to expose corruption even among his closest followers.

‎Despite the critique, Abure praised the State Security Services (SSS) and the military for maintaining peace during the yuletide, while calling for better motivation for servicemen.
