The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a statement released on December 26, criticized the Federal Government over late communication following a United States military strike on terrorist assets in Sokoto State on Christmas Day.

The PDP described the handling of the situation by the government as a failure in communication due to the inverted communication approach.

The controversy arose because the news of the airstrikes was first broken by the United States President, Donald Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social, hours before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria issued a confirmation.

The PDP argues that the delay in official Nigerian reporting makes the government appear to be caught unaware by operations occurring on its own soil.

This inverted communication approach does not help the Federal Government or Nigerians in any way… the government should have been the first to report the news in order to properly sensitize the Nigerian populace – Comrade Ini Ememobong

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar clarified on December 26 that the operation was not a surprise. He stated that he had earlier engaged with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and that Nigeria provided the critical intelligence used to target the ISIS/ISWAP, and potentially Lakurawa militants in the region.
