The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a statement issued on December 27, by the spokesperson of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused President Bola Tinubu of outsourcing his constitutional mandate to protect the nation.
The ADC stated that by allowing a foreign power to carryout military operations on Nigerian soil sets a dangerous precedent for national sovereignty.
The ADC emphasized that Nigerians first learned of the strikes from a social media post by the United States President Donald Trump and a message from the United States Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
The party questioned why Nigeria was relegated to the role of an informant rather than leading a mission on its own territory.
There is currently no official casualty count from the Federal Government, leading the ADC to demand a full report on the number of terrorists neutralized and any potential collateral damage.
While the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, defended the action as a precision hit based on shared intelligence, the ADC stated that this reliance shows the incompetence of the current administration.
When the President of Nigeria appears compelled to report himself to another head of state… Nigerians are entitled to ask who is truly in charge of our country? This is what happens when a government behaves as though governance is all about revenue collection and all other issues, including national security, are treated as an afterthought – Bolaji Abdullahi
As of Saturday afternoon, Nigerians are still waiting for a comprehensive breakdown of the impact of the strike beyond the success claims from Washington.
