Suspected kidnappers responsible for the abduction of 28 travellers in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State have opened negotiations with families of the victims. Family representatives reported on Tuesday, December 23, that the abductors are demanding a ransom of ₦1.5 million for each hostage, regardless of age or gender.

‎Dawn Herald reported that the victims, who include women, children, and teenagers, were ambushed on Sunday night while travelling from Zak to Sabon Layi for a Maulud celebration. The travellers were intercepted in a convoy led by a local district head and two princes.

‎The abductors are still insisting on a flat rate of ₦1.5 million per head, after initial pleas to lower the amount for children and women.

‎During the negotiation call, the kidnappers reportedly assured the families that the victims are in good hands and safe for the time being, provided the ransom is paid.

‎Family members of those abducted, majorly villagers who are struggling with the basic cost of living, stated their inability to fulfill the demands of the terrorists;

The kidnappers called me last night and said we must pay ₦1.5 million for each person… But they assured us that our people are in good hands…I told them we are villagers and we don’t have that kind of money. Life is not easy for us here… So I begged them to have mercy on us – Ibrahim Musa

‎The Plateau State Police Command is still forging ahead with it plans to rescue the abducted and to bring the perpetrators to book.
