Bandits launched a series of attacks on Sunday, December 14, in Kogi State, striking an Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Àaaaz-Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area (LGA), and several settlements in Mopa Muro LGA.

The attacks resulted in the death of at least four persons and the abduction of an unspecified number of worshippers and residents.

‎The attack on the ECWA church occurred during Sunday morning service. Gunmen reportedly shot indiscriminately to intimidate residents before entering the church premises. One person was confirmed dead at the ECWA church, with many families reporting missing relatives who were abducted.

‎In a separate attack, bandits invaded settlements in Mopa Muro LGA, around 4:00 AM, killing three persons in two locations. Two at the Jamroro and one near the Illai Grammar School. Additionally, three persons were abducted from Illai area.

‎Senator Sunday Karimi (Kogi West) condemned the worsening security situation, stressing that the recent attack follows the unreleased kidnapping of worshippers at a Cherubim and Seraphim church two weeks prior. He called on both the federal and state government to intervene quickly by deploying special security forces to flush out these criminal elements and to restore peace and order in the state.

‎The State Commissioner of Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, sympathises with the affected communities and assured the public that efforts are underway to restore calm to the area.
