A faction of the Boko Haram terror group loyal to Ali Ngulde has publicly executed two women in Mandara Mountain area of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, after accusing them of engaging in ‘shirk’ (idolatry) and using charms.
The Ali Ngulde faction, part of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) group (the original Boko Haram), operates in the rugged terrain of the Mandara Mountains, along the Nigeria-Cameroon border. This group is known for its brutal punitive measures and its distinct, ideology compared to rival factions like ISWAP.
The women were intercepted during a routine search where they were allegedly found with charms (layu). The terrorists interpreted this as evidence of ‘shirk’, an Islamic term for the sin of associating partners with Allah. The execution was carried out publicly to enforce strict obedience to the doctrines of the faction.
The terrorists took them to a secluded part of the mountains and executed them after the so-called trial. He added that the execution was carried out publicly in the presence of fighters and civilians living under the group’s control, in a bid to instill fear and ensure strict obedience to the faction’s hardline doctrines – A source familiar with the event
According to the report from counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the Ali Ngulde faction has recently implemented its brutal measures against individuals accused of sorcery, or attempting to defect from its practices.
The execution shows the continued threat by the unrepentant Boko Haram factions, particularly the Ali Ngulde group, which uses extreme violence and religious puritanism to control territories and intimidate civilians.
