The mobile phones of two of Nigeria’s wealthiest businessmen, Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola, were reportedly compromised by hackers over the past week, according to a report by TheCable.
The cyber intruders have demanded ransom from both individuals. While Otedola suffered one breach, Dangote, Africa’s richest man, experienced two separate breaches within a 48-hour period. As at the time this report was published, it remains unconfirmed if the moguls have regained full control of their devices.
Sources confirm the hackers immediately contacted both men demanding financial payment. The exact nature and amount of the ransom, as well as the extent of data stolen, which could include highly sensitive financial, business, and personal information remain unknown.
In 2024, at least two state governors, Bassey Otu of Cross River State and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, had their phones breached by scammers seeking financial advantage by impersonating them.
