The Kano State Police Command has arrested two teenage suspects over the alleged unlawful possession of firearms. Police officers recovered a locally made revolver pistol and two rounds of live ammunition during the intelligence-led operation.
The primary suspect, 19-year-old Rufai Ahmed, was apprehended on October 11 after a police surveillance team intercepted a commercial tricycle along Sokoto Road. A search conducted by officers attached to the Farm Centre Police Division led to the discovery of a bag containing the concealed weapon and the arrest of the suspect.
Confirming the arrests in a press statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed that the apprehension of the first suspect led to the arrest of the second suspect.
“Further investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, led to the arrest of another suspect, Aliyu Ibrahim, 19, of Kawo Quarters, Kano, in connection with the case”.
The Kano State Police Command stated that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police lauded the officers for their vigilance and urged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
