Minister Tuggar, Piers Morgan clash over unedited interview

Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and ace British broadcaster Piers Morgan have engaged in a publicized exchange on social media regarding the upcoming broadcast of their interview.

‎The dispute centers on the Minister’s demand that the interview be aired exactly as recorded, without edits or selective omissions to ensure Nigeria’s perspective on alleged religious persecution is not distorted. The diplomatic talk took a turn after Tuggar mocked Morgan for confusing the abducted Chibok girls with “Chibok boys,” a response lauded by Nigerians.

‎The interview, which is yet to air, was conducted in the context of persistent global allegations of religious persecution in Nigeria, which the Nigerian government consistently refutes.

‎Tuggar appeared on Morgan’s show, ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’, to provide a factual and contextual perspective on the misleading narratives about religious persecution. He warned  that selective editing could skew the narrative to fit what he termed external biases.

I am as cool as a cucumber, Mr Morgan… Just want to make sure you don’t edit out the parts where you kept referring to the ‘Chibok Boys’! Well researched

‎Morgan, however, promised to air the comments “in full,” assuring Tuggar that the show is named “Uncensored” for a reason.

‎The interview took place shortly after President Donald Trump re-designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC)” over claims of Christian persecution, increasing the sensitivity surrounding any international media coverage of the issue.
