Chief Willie Obiano, the former Governor of Anambra State, has publicly denied viral social media rumours claiming his death. Obiano took to his Facebook page to assure his supporters and the public that he is alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health. The statement addresses the news that had been circulating since Friday, November 14, 2025.
The rumour which circulated on social media, was fueled due to the fact that the former governor has been facing legal issues and has traveled abroad since leaving office.
Obiano himself utilized his personal Facebook page to issue a direct statement to his supporters, referred to as “Ndi Anambra.”
Let me assure you personally: I am alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health. By the special grace of God, I am doing very well – Obiano.
Obiano served as the Governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022. Since his departure from office, he has been under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged ₦4 billion fraud, adding to the public interest surrounding his status.
The former governor described the spreading of the false reports as unfortunate, and a mischief by individuals who find joy in disseminating falsehoods.
