‎The Hisbah Board in Katsina State, destroyed more than 120 cartons of confiscated alcoholic beverages on Thursday in Funtua Local Government Area. The action is meant to curb the consumption, distribution, and trafficking of intoxicants, which are considered unlawful under Sharia law enforced in the state.

‎The destruction exercise was led by D.C. Bashir Lawal Balarabe, the Hisbah Commander in Dandume Local Government Area, was overseen by the State Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, C.G. Sheikh Malam Aminu Usman (Abu-Ammar), PhD.

‎Officials stated the alcohol was intercepted during routine operations aimed at tackling what they described as rising moral decadence within the region.
‎Hisbah is an Islamic institution tasked with upholding community morals and enforcing Sharia law, which explicitly forbids the consumption of alcohol (intoxicants). Katsina State adopted the Sharia penal system in 2000.

‎The Commander-General, Sheikh Abu-Ammar, praised the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, for his commitment to re-establishing and strengthening the Hisbah Board to address social and moral challenges.

‎This is not the first major seizure. In 2024, the Katsina Hisbah Board reportedly seized and destroyed alcohol and illicit drugs worth ₦60 million in the same Funtua Local Government Area.

‎Hisbah officials called on community members, parents, and religious leaders to support the board’s efforts by providing information on locations where immoral behaviors are committed.
