A phone-robbery syndicate operating across the London metropolitan area has been handed a combined jail sentence of 55 years by a UK court.

‎The 10-member group included four Nigerian men, David Okewole (7 years, 6 months), David Akintola (6 years, 6 months), Ayomide Olaribiro (4 years, 6 months), and Olabiyi Obasa (3 years, 6 months), who were convicted of conspiracy to rob.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the syndicate carried out 13 robberies between September and November 2024, primarily targeting telecommunication stores, and stealing high-value mobile phones and devices with a total value of £240,000.

‎The syndicate repeatedly targeted EE stores, using threats of violence to force staff to open secure stock rooms to access high-value inventory.

‎The investigation led by the Met’s Flying Squad utilized sophisticated techniques to dismantle the group. Detectives successfully linked the suspects to the crime scenes through DNA evidence, call data, and vehicle records.

The breakthrough came on November 19, 2024, when officers arrested four of the men in the act during a planned operation at an EE shop in Kilburn. Eight of the ten defendants pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob on January 30, 2025, and were sentenced on Friday, November 7, 2025.

‎The sentences were announced by the UK Metropolitan Police, who gave the breakdown of the jail terms handed down to the 10 men. The nature of the crime was a key factor in the sentences.
