Armed bandits attacked Yan Kwada village in the Faruruwa community of Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State, on Sunday evening, abducting five women, including nursing mothers.
The assailants, who were reportedly large in number and heavily armed, raided several homes before fleeing with the victims. Although two of the abducted women have since returned, three remain in captivity. The attack occurred less than a week after a joint military operation in the same area reportedly killed 19 bandits.
Residents attribute the rising insecurity in Kano to a possible spillover effect of military operations in Katsina State, pushing the criminal groups into the state.
The consistent fear has led to the desertion of several villages, with residents seeking refuge in neighbouring towns especially Faruruwa or relocating to urban centers.
The recurring attacks in border communities have prompted calls from security experts and local leaders, including the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), for an inter-state security collaboration to counter the movement and regrouping of bandits.
