Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, has officially rejoined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His move comes just two months after his expulsion from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of dues.
Jibrin announced the defection alongside a massive gathering of his supporters in Kano State, pledging their collective support for President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election bid in 2027.
Abdulmumin Jibrin is a prominent political figure in Kano State and a four-term member of the House of Representatives. He was previously a member of the APC before joining the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement, led by former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. His recent expulsion from the NNPP created a political vacuum regarding his loyalty. Jibrin in order to fill the existing vacuum, defected to the ruling APC, shortly after his expulsion and amidst an apparent close relationship with President Bola Tinubu.
Jibrin stressed that his defection carries substantial local political weight, by bringing a large crowd of supporters to align with the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
I decided to bring this crowd to correct my earlier mistake. I don’t want anyone to say I don’t have supporters
He confirmed that his supporters had collectively resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.
The event also featured special prayers offered by 2,000 Islamic clerics for the President and for peace in the region.
