Kano State Government has sanctioned ₦586.5 million for the construction of weighbridge facilities at Doguwa Local Government and five major state entry points to improve trade regulation and road safety.
The decision, made during the 33rd Executive Council meeting led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, aims to tackle vehicle overloading, protect infrastructure, and ensure proper taxation of goods transported within and beyond Kano.
The weighbridge project, managed by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, is part of the ₦19 billion investment package targeting critical sectors like housing, energy, and industry.
Other approved initiatives include building 50 low-cost housing units statewide, acquiring controlling shares in Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) for improved power supply, and adopting a state electricity policy to drive renewable energy development.
With these infrastructure and policy measures underway, Kano is setting a foundation for sustainable development, economic diversification, and improved public services.
