The Adamawa State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has empowered 2,500 households in Madagali Local Government Area through cash grants, vocational kits, and fish farming inputs.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri inaugurated the empowerment exercise at Gulak Stadium, stressing the agenda of the administration to lift over 10,000 people out of poverty by providing sustainable means of livelihood. The program is aimed at supporting vulnerable communities affected by conflict and economic challenges.
According to Dr. Celine Laori, Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), the distribution included ₦300,000 business grants to 1,500 households, vocational kits for 500 households, and fish farming inputs to 250 others. The program prioritizes varied income-generating activities to create long-term economic impact.
Governor Fintiri praised the role of UNDP in the post-conflict recovery agenda, which is in-line with the state’s goal, calling for the replication of the program in other affected areas such as Michika, Mubi, Maiha, Gombi, and Hong.
Beneficiaries and community leaders expressed gratitude, calling the intervention timely and transformative for many families struggling to rebuild their lives.
The Adamawa government and UNDP’s joint initiative is a vital investment in post-conflict recovery and economic empowerment in northeastern Nigeria. Community leaders across the state, anticipate the expansion of this program to other vulnerable communities in order to foster inclusive development in Adamawa State.
