The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its intention to move forward with its National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, despite a Federal High Court order barring the event. The court injunction was issued on grounds of alleged procedural breaches.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should not recognise or publish any outcome from the PDP’s convention until the party complies fully with statutory requirements.
This legal action has halted the electoral process organized by the party due to allegations of breaches in internal rules.
In response, the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described the judgment as an assault on the democratic process of the country, stressing that it would not deter the party’s preparations for electing new national officers to lead the party for the next four years.
The party made reference to a recent Supreme Court decision emphasizing the autonomy of political parties in managing their internal affairs. Ologunagba assured Nigerians that the PDP has directed its legal team to appeal the ruling quickly.
Ologunagba urged party members and structures to remain focused as preparations continue for the convention.
