Aliko Dangote has announced plans to expand the daily production capacity of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery from its current 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.4 million bpd. The expansion is intended to position the facility as the largest single-site refinery globally and is projected to conclude within three years.

The Dangote Refinery, located in Lagos, Nigeria, commenced operations in 2024 and is already Africa’s largest single-train refinery. Its current 650,000 bpd capacity is designed to eliminate Nigeria’s reliance on imported refined petroleum products, a key economic goal for the country, which is Africa’s largest crude oil producer.

This announced expansion to 1.4 million bpd would surpass the capacity of the current world’s largest, the Jamnagar Refinery in India. The project also aims to upgrade fuel production from Euro V to the higher environmental standard of Euro VI. The project is also expected to create 65,000 construction jobs.

The Dangote Group plans to list the refinery on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX) in 2026 to allow Nigerian public shareholding, which is their commitment to local economic inclusion.

You can buy as many shares as you can. Therefore, we are making sure that this refinery belongs to all Nigerians

‎The listing on the NGX is viewed as a positive step toward market transparency and the democratization of the ownership a strategic national asset. The three-year expansion project is set to begin immediately, backed by cash flow and strategic investors.
