Abdussamad Dasuki, a federal lawmaker from Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency, has announced he will not seek re-election in 2027. He stated the decision is a personal sacrifice aimed at creating space for younger Nigerians to participate in government, aligning his actions with his advocacy for youth leadership.

Honorable Dasuki is the interim chairman of the Future Is Now Project, a project aimed at advocating for increased youth representation in the National Assembly. His voluntary exit, after serving since 2011, directly supports his organization’s declaration that 70% of House seats should be occupied by Nigerians under the age of 40 in the 2027 elections.

He stated his decision was not born out of fatigue or disillusionment, but a higher calling, driven by a belief in an evolving democracy.

I am still a youth by all standards, but I have crossed the 40-year threshold we proposed… And so I chose to make space for the vision we proclaimed – Dasuki

Dasuki’s action challenges the prevailing culture of political longevity in the country. While he steps down from elected office, he maintains to commit to policy advocacy and mentorship. This move is being interpreted as setting a new precedent for political leadership accountability and renewal.
