Bauchi State Governor appoints elder brother as Emir

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has appointed his elder brother, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, as the Emir of the newly created Duguri Emirate.

The appointment was formally confirmed on Friday, October 24, 2025, with the letter of appointment presented by a government delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Aminu Hammayo, at the Duguri palace.

The appointment follows Governor Mohammed’s assent on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, to a bill establishing 13 additional emirates and chiefdom in Bauchi State, including the Duguri Emirate.

This restructuring of traditional governance, formalized under the Bauchi State Emirates and Chieftaincies (Appointment and Deposition) Law, 2025, is aimed at addressing long-standing community agitations and demands for greater representation.

Governor Mohammed stated;

This reform is not an act of politics, but of policy; not a reward for loyalty, but a recognition of merit and necessity. The creation of these emirates was intended to address perceived injustices and foster unity among diverse groups; recognise cultural heritage and promote inclusivity; and blend traditional leadership with modern governance

The Governor’s office envision the development as a positive policy step towards grassroots development and social justice, fulfilling long-term local demands.

The newly installed Emir Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, has promised to align with the state’s development goals, prioritize education, healthcare, and peace within his domain. The new Emir, is a retired Assistant Controller of Customs and currently serves as the Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (BA-SUBEB).

‎The Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo, reportedly urged the new ruler to support government policies for sustainable growth and development.
‎State officials have issued a stern warning against any attempts to politicize or disrupt the implementation of the reform, suggesting the government is prepared to forcefully defend its action.
