The Federal Government has officially dismissed circulating claims that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, described the reports suggesting the scrapping of JAMB as false and misleading. He clarified that no official communication from the Ministry has indicated any change in policy regarding JAMB’s authority.
Established in 1977, JAMB remains the statutory body empowered to conduct entrance exams and oversee admission procedures across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.
The Minister reassured the public that the current admission system through JAMB remains fully operational and unchanged. He stressed the Ministry’s collaboration with JAMB to uphold transparency, fairness, and meritocracy in the admission process.
According to Dr. Alausa, the admission system continues to prioritize integrity and procedural fairness, rejecting any insinuation otherwise.
The Ministry of Education calls on prospective students, parents, and institutions to rely solely on official channels for accurate information.
